The village of Saint-Paul-le-Jeune lies on the Cevennes fault. This fault-line divides the sandstone slopes to the west from the limestone plateau to the east. On the sandstone side, the clay layers prevent water from seeping through, creating numerous springs that led to hamlets developing there. On the limestone scrubland side, water infiltrates rapidly, creating an underground “Swiss Cheese” effect (karstic relief).

 

The sandstone section of this circuit takes you via the hamlet of Le Frigolet and along a fantastic ridge.

  2.  Poteau La Coste - Follow VTT Chadouillet 3,9km.
  3. Poteau Mazet de Gros – Follow VTT Chadouillet 2,7km.
  4. Poteau Carissoules - Follow VTT Chadouillet 0,9km.
  5. Poteau Chadouillet – Follow  Les Courpatières 1,3km.
  6. Poteau Then follow  Les Courpatières 1,2km.
  7. Poteau Les Courpatières - Follow Goule de Sauvas 2,3km.
  8. Poteau Goule de Sauvas - Follow Mazet de Gros 1,4km 
  9. Poteau Mazet de Gros – Follow  La Coste 1,2km
  10. Poteau  La Coste – Follow  St Paul le Jeune Place de la Gare 0,5km
