The village of Saint-Paul-le-Jeune lies on the Cevennes fault. This fault-line divides the sandstone slopes to the west from the limestone plateau to the east. On the sandstone side, the clay layers prevent water from seeping through, creating numerous springs that led to hamlets developing there. On the limestone scrubland side, water infiltrates rapidly, creating an underground “Swiss Cheese” effect (karstic relief).

The sandstone section of this circuit takes you via the hamlet of Le Frigolet and along a fantastic ridge.

Description

P – From the car park, go to the signpost St-Paul-le-Jeune Place de la Gare.

  1.  Poteau St-Paul-le-Jeune - Follow VTT Croix Rouge 1,6km.
  2.  Poteau Croix Rouge - Follow La Croix de la Devèze 3,9km.
  3.  Poteau Les Rousses - Follow  St Paul le Jeune Place de la Gare 0,9km.
